If this is what he wants
And this is what she wants
Then why’s there so much pain

@MarkHoppus

It all started with a simple tweet. The Mark Hoppus twitter page has been a huge resource for blink 182 news since the official announcement the night of the Grammys. I suppose anyone with the cognitive ability to put two and two together could have probably deduced that this small exchange between Hoppus and fellow bassiest for the band Fall Out Boy, Pete Wentz, may have lead to a secret show of sorts. And so it did.

Via Megan Thompson

The set, sponsored by TMobile & captured for Youtube, featured material spanning the band’s career, from Dammit to Feeling This. There were plenty of “HEY MARK!!” shouts from Tom and a “Fuck you AT&T!” from Hoppus. There was very little full synth and auto-tune, which guitarist Tom DeLonge featured heavily in live shows with Angels & Airwaves. It was a set that is the first of many more coming later this summer, with openers Fall Out Boy & Weezer.

But, according to a new interview on Billboard with Hoppus, frequent DeLonge/Hoppus cohorts won’t be the only kids to share the stage with the influencial pop punk band from SoCal. Panic at the Disco, All-American Rejects, Taking Back Sunday, Asher Roth, & Chester French are all possiblities for different venues and that may just be the short list if tweet exchanges between Mark & various members of Minneapolis’ Motion City Soundtrack follow through. It’s likely to be a very big summer. Tickets go on sale May 30TH.

According to Buzznet, blink-182 will be touring with Weezer this summer on their first outing since reforming after a 4-year hiatus. Buzznet cites an anonymous source and few other details are available about such a tour. What we do know is that the tour will be prior to blink-182′s album due this fall and will contain songs from several of the band’s albums.

Most information currently available, with the exception of the Weezer announcement, is straight from bassist Mark Hoppus’ own lips, or perhaps fingers may be a more appropriate word. Hoppus has been constantly updating his Twitter.com account since it’s creation with ramblings of day to day activities. Entries on the musician’s micro-blogging page range from his erratic sleep schedule to working on remixes for bands like Fall Out Boy and his announcement of working with new albums as a producer for acts like Motion City Soundtrack, with which he worked on Commit This to Memory in 2005.

Tour Mockup

The man seems content to remain busy even through out the finalizing of blink-182′s album and in preparation for a tour. Other entries by Hoppus are conversations with Chris Holmes, who worked with Hoppus extensively on +44 during the blink hiatus, about the possibility of working with production while on the road with his own band. This would lead some to ask why not take along a lesser known band to give them exposure? To be honest no one knows if other acts will be involved on the summer tour, although you’d have to think the details would come out soon. Weezer may have been guitarist Tom DeLonge’s idea. DeLonge did a co-headlining tour with Weezer and his band Angels & Airwaves just last fall, when the rumors of a blink reunion were starting to formulate. Immediately after the announcement of a reunion and a tour rumors had already sprung about just who would be special enough to join along, including the mock tour poster that made it’s way on to AbsolutePunk.

Regardless of who’s on the tour, this summer is sure to turn every twenty and thirty-something out there back into a 15 yr. old kid laughing at fart jokes. And let’s be honest, we could use some of that.

Alright friends, I suppose it’s time for a short break from Grand Theft Auto 4 and for me to hop into a new article for Postblink – although I am only 30%/45 missions in. Today I’m talking about summer block busters for the sunny days of 2008. After watching an inspiring episode of The Totally Rad Show, I decided it’s time for my top 5 picks of summer. The following are my picks, let’s see yours in the comments. You can find all upcoming releases here.

First Pick – Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Directed by Steven Spielburg? Co-written by George Lucas? Are you kidding me? Forget that it’s another step in a legendary film series, the film creators and actors are enough to make this the biggest film of 2008. I’m more excited for this than I was any of the Starwars prequels. This film is my top pick because everyone is going to be seeing this movie, of all ages and demographics, and probably multiple times.

Second Pick – Dark Knight

I’m not a huge fan of Batman Begins, but I don’t think I’ll be able to say the same for Dark Knight. The late Heath Ledger is going to be a huge factor in how amazing this movie is, in my opinion, and I can’t wait for it. I’m expecting ten times the story and double the action of Batman Begins.

Third Pick – The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

I think this is going to beat out Iron Man, but I’m not sure by what measure. While I am looking forward to checking this out, it’s not one I’m going to be crushed if I don’t see. It’s my third pick, however, because I do believe many people are going to be rushing to see this. If I was going to base this completely on my personal tastes, WALL-E would take this spot – but I’m taking into consideration what I think the box office sales numbers will show.

Fourth Pick - WALL-E

The trailers have been fairly abstract as far as storyline for this movie, although I guess I haven’t watched one in a while. I think this Pixar film will be one of the better movies coming out this summer. I haven’t really ever been disappointed by Pixar and they seem to only get better after each previous film. WALL-E has some of the best new animation from a company that won awards for it’s animation in the mid-nineties.

Fifth Pick – Iron Man

There’s a lot of internet hype for Iron Man – but I guess that’s the base of the culture that are looking forward to seeing this live-action comic book inspired film. I’m not interested so much from that point of view as I am because Robert Downy Jr. is in it and ever since he stopped doing rails in bathrooms his acting has been amazing.

What almost made it? - Pineapple Express

Pineapple Express didn’t quite make it because I’m not sure how many people will be interested outside of the target audience. Will Seth Rogen add anything new to his slacker-comedy relief stoner role? Could he add any depth to a lead character who plays a stoner? I think I’m going to love this movie, but I don’t quite agree with all my friends who think it’s going to be the best action/comedy film of 2008. Despite what the trailers show, my stoner friends just aren’t that active.

What will never make it? - Speed Racer

I think this film will kill off the Wachowski brothers and be a massive let down. Maybe it’s the story that doesn’t interest me, maybe it’s the stupid mix of live action/over-artistic CGI for the race scenes we’ve seen in the advertisements – I don’t know. All I can say is I won’t be seeing this and I can’t think of any of my friends who are busting out to see it. Two words: “over” & “hyped”.

In conclusion? Sorry if this was hard to read. I’m going on very little sleep and I’m sure my reading comprehension skills are a little drained after having to decipher so many accents in GTA.

I haven’t really written anything but music, game, and politic news in a while so here’s my effort to try to rectify that. What’s going on with me?

Well, on the 11th I went to Ames with with a couple friends to visit Craig and Hayley for a night and it was pretty packed there. Thus, of course, I came down with the flu the following Monday and I’ve been slowly getting over that since – very slowly. It’s been quite annoying.

Yesterday was an amazing day, however, and it was the best reminder this year that summer will return, and when it does, all shall be good. I’m anxious to start some summer classes and get them done with so I can get into my program for school next year.

But as for spring, what’s keeping me occupied? When it’s not raining and I’m not sick then biking. I got a new bike last year and I’m pretty excited for summer to get here. We’ve got a new camera I can pop in my pocket and I’m pretty pumped to just ride of and take some shots.

Also, towards the end of May we’re finally going to be heading to Memphis and/or Nashville for the postponed trip we were going to take during spring break. I can’t wait for that. Other vacationing plans for the rest of summer? Concerts hopefully, followed by a family trip to, as far as I know at this point, either South Dakota or Wisconsin for some fishing/camping. Fun stuff. I mean, I would prefer to go to Florida again, especially where we’ve stayed the past couple years, but I think we’re going to take a break from that this year.

At first I wasn’t a big fan of the change, but it’s definitely growing on me. I haven’t actually “roughed it” for a while, since we went on our fishing trip in Canada when I was in middle school, and that was a blast. We used to pack up tents and take off all the time to either to a camp ground or our cabin and I do miss it. I just need to find a bike rack at this point.

Anyways, it’s 5:30 in the morning and my dogs are crying like mad to be let out so I guess I’ll leave it at this. I can’t wait summer.

I’ve done alot over this summer and not really filled in the details. I didn’t write much at all about my Florida trip, which may have been the best vacation I’ve ever been on in my life. I havn’t written about my trip to Indiana for the AE Lan with Craig. I havn’t said much on the bonfires, the hanging, or the going out with friends. Part of it’s because this fall marks a time when so many of my friends are going to be gone. Some of it has to do with me being completely unsure of what I’m in for myself. It’s all been up in the air.

I saw almost everything I wanted to see in Florida. I swam in the ocean, saw wild dolphines, went to Seaworld, petted giraffs from the back of a wildlife truck at Busch Gardens, and boated across brackish water, just two feet from alligators. I saw a tropical storm which almost developed into the season’s first hurricane. I got sick ascending in a plane and loved how it felt landing. It was an amazing time that I’ll never forget.

This summer’s been full of firsts & lasts, ups & downs, and almost bitter goodbyes. But it’s coming to a close, and with that is both a sadness and great excitement. I wish I could talk about the things the guys and I are about to do musically, but for now, I can’t. Hopefully when we get more into it, I can start talking about what we’ve been doing, because being muted about the subject isn’t something I should go through. Talking things out is what gets my mind moving and inspiration flowing.
