Summer Courses
Blow! But I’m done on the 29TH so that’s okay.
I’ll be hitting up the August 3RD Minnesota stop of the Warped Tour - just ordered tickets. I’ll have more news soon.
Summer ‘08
Freshman year of college. Check.
Yesterday I packed up and moved out of my residence hall. (Good riddance to my disgusting roommate, her even more disgusting boyfriend, and the unpleasant people on my floor.) Friday before it was one hell of a night. I went out to the hookah bar with Sara and Ben. We had a good time, and then Weeb and Andy showed up to spend some time with us. They brought one of the alumni from the fraternity that I just couldn’t stand but I guess I didn’t have to deal with him much. After we left the hookah, we went back to the house and spent the night dancing and running amok. After Sara passed out on the porch though, it was time to call it quits. Once I got home, I intended to go to bed seeing as it was past 4am. That didn’t happen. I had visitors and they stayed until nearly 7am. I was supposed to be meeting my aunt at 8, so I had no choice but to stay awake since I’d only get to sleep for an hour. She showed up and we got moved out. I never did go to bed either.
I was up for 31 hours straight. It was rough and I slept forever today. I thought I’d be happy to be home for a little bit but I’m not. I’m just dying to get back to Ames and move into my apartment for the summer. Most of my friends are having a great time being home but I’m actually college sick. I’ve only got about 5 days left now but it seems like forever. I shopped for my apartment yesterday and went nuts just picking out dishes. My excitement is ridiculous. Summer ‘08…bring me my life back.
I think my calculations were a bit… off?
If I had made my previous block busters list according to what others thought I would have been way off, apparently. Iron Man raked in over a cool hundred million in it’s first week - the second highest first weekend debut of any non-sequel.
God damn summer, you’re ruining my life.
It occurred to me today that I have not written here in some time and well, maybe that I should do my fuckin’ job and post something.
So I have one week left of my freshman year in the great college adventure. Hell yes, right? Wrong. I’m not ready to leave in the least. Everyone around me is packing up their things and babbling about how they can’t wait to go home. Apparently I’m a freak of nature because I’m dragging my feet and wishing it was next fall already. I think I have issues with letting go of people and places. College has been the greatest time of my entire life. Now I understand why some people never want to leave college. The people I know here are my entire life. I’m at a point right now where it feels like leaving these people will be the death of me. I thought high school was going to leave me with the people I’d always remember but they’ve been thrown through a window by college relationships.
College gave me my new best friend, Trista. The old one and I cut the apron strings and it’s for the better. Trista’s going home for the summer. I’m not. I should mention that. Whereas many of the people are going to disappear for the next few months, the place remains. I’m moving into an apartment on campus with Danielle. Lucky for me, some of my boys will still be staying around the fraternity. I could play frat house sleepover too if it weren’t for the housing corp. Girls aren’t allowed to live there this summer. Weak. I’m not looking forward to sleeping in an empty apartment alone when Danielle is sleeping next door at her boyfriend’s apartment. I convince myself that I hear noises when I’m alone. Garret will probably have to come sleep over until I get used to it. That’s what friends are for.
People are graduating. Some are leaving. I’m never going to see some of them again and that sucks. I’m far too attached to these people for my own good. I never really thought about anyone leaving even though I obviously knew that they would have to some day. I guess it’s just nice to think they’ll be there until the day I graduate. Bummer…
2008 Block Busters
Alright friends, I suppose it’s time for a short break from Grand Theft Auto 4 and for me to hop into a new article for Postblink - although I am only 30%/45 missions in. Today I’m talking about summer block busters for the sunny days of 2008. After watching an inspiring episode of The Totally Rad Show, I decided it’s time for my top 5 picks of summer. The following are my picks, let’s see yours in the comments. You can find all upcoming releases here.
First Pick - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Directed by Steven Spielburg? Co-written by George Lucas? Are you kidding me? Forget that it’s another step in a legendary film series, the film creators and actors are enough to make this the biggest film of 2008. I’m more excited for this than I was any of the Starwars prequels. This film is my top pick because everyone is going to be seeing this movie, of all ages and demographics, and probably multiple times.
Second Pick - Dark Knight
I’m not a huge fan of Batman Begins, but I don’t think I’ll be able to say the same for Dark Knight. The late Heath Ledger is going to be a huge factor in how amazing this movie is, in my opinion, and I can’t wait for it. I’m expecting ten times the story and double the action of Batman Begins.
Third Pick - The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
I think this is going to beat out Iron Man, but I’m not sure by what measure. While I am looking forward to checking this out, it’s not one I’m going to be crushed if I don’t see. It’s my third pick, however, because I do believe many people are going to be rushing to see this. If I was going to base this completely on my personal tastes, WALL-E would take this spot - but I’m taking into consideration what I think the box office sales numbers will show.
Fourth Pick - WALL-E
The trailers have been fairly abstract as far as storyline for this movie, although I guess I haven’t watched one in a while. I think this Pixar film will be one of the better movies coming out this summer. I haven’t really ever been disappointed by Pixar and they seem to only get better after each previous film. WALL-E has some of the best new animation from a company that won awards for it’s animation in the mid-nineties.
Fifth Pick - Iron Man
There’s a lot of internet hype for Iron Man - but I guess that’s the base of the culture that are looking forward to seeing this live-action comic book inspired film. I’m not interested so much from that point of view as I am because Robert Downy Jr. is in it and ever since he stopped doing rails in bathrooms his acting has been amazing.
What almost made it? - Pineapple Express
Pineapple Express didn’t quite make it because I’m not sure how many people will be interested outside of the target audience. Will Seth Rogen add anything new to his slacker-comedy relief stoner role? Could he add any depth to a lead character who plays a stoner? I think I’m going to love this movie, but I don’t quite agree with all my friends who think it’s going to be the best action/comedy film of 2008. Despite what the trailers show, my stoner friends just aren’t that active.
What will never make it? - Speed Racer
I think this film will kill off the Wachowski brothers and be a massive let down. Maybe it’s the story that doesn’t interest me, maybe it’s the stupid mix of live action/over-artistic CGI for the race scenes we’ve seen in the advertisements - I don’t know. All I can say is I won’t be seeing this and I can’t think of any of my friends who are busting out to see it. Two words: “over” & “hyped”.
In conclusion? Sorry if this was hard to read. I’m going on very little sleep and I’m sure my reading comprehension skills are a little drained after having to decipher so many accents in GTA.
