Postblink

Postblink is a blog. Or, perhaps more accurately, the blog of Lucas Boyles. I started LucasJ.Net in October of 2004 – initially to hone my programming skills. It’s the backbone of my amateur web design & coding project. Postblink came along as an outlet for creative and design frustrations as well as a part-opinion/part-review blog on music, movies, gaming, politics, technology & life in general. Now Postblink has multiple article authors. The Postblink team is made up of twenty-somethings figuring out what they want to do with their life and taking you along for the ride and all of us, for the moment at least, live in Iowa.

Iowa? The state with the potatoes right?

Actually, no, that would be Idaho. We’re from Iowa, the Hawkeye state? Black and gold? Eh, forget it. We’re the state right next to that other state that starts with an I with the big city of Chicago in it.

I won’t lie to you. It’s not exactly the innovation capital of the world here, unless you’re studying what the best type of corn might be. My interest in technology and multimedia actually stems from extreme boredom. Things aren’t really that bad off here, for the most part. My internet kind of blows for first-person shooters online but at least I have some form of broadband. And that’s just because of the town I live in. My telecommunications company is named Farmer’s Mutual after all. . .

Lucas Boyles’ Story

There’s not too much to my story. I flunked out of high school because I didn’t understand the importance of academics and proceeded to write them off as boring and useless. I was a flake, but that’s not to say I didn’t learn anything

I’ve made up for past mistakes, attaining my G.E.D. (high school equivalency) and starting out at Hawkeye Community College with their Information Systems Management program. After that, I’m even hoping to attend university at either Iowa or Iowa State. I’ve come a long way since missing every other day of class in high school.

I’m most likely the author you’ll see posting the game news around Postblink, especially if it’s PS3 oriented. You can add me on the PSN – I’m Raiden218.

Craig Bowers’ Story

So, it seems that there’s already one Craig on this page. As this is my first post EVAR on Postblink I feel I need to differentiate myself somehow. I think it’s now time to tell you a little about myself.

I was born in California and lived there for about 6 years before I moved to Iowa. I don’t remember much from California when I was there because my mom didn’t let me play outside our fence. It turns out a lot of hobos lived under a bridge fairly close to our duplex, and if I could direct you to http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=76 you may not be as surprised to find out why my mother wanted me close by.

I’m kind of a geek. Yeah. Most of my high school involved gaming in some shape or size. We’d have LAN parties pretty often… Hell, I drove 8 hours to get to a LAN party in Indiana. Anyway, throughout this I did pretty well for myself throughout school. Hah, not with girls, or sports, or socially, and I guess I didn’t learn a whole lot, but I got good grades, and that’s what really matters, right? I didn’t try very hard, but I did my work and I did pretty well.

So now I’m in college, and it’s my second year. Everyone says they’re jealous of those people who know exactly what they want to do when they graduate and have everything lined up for them. I’m not sure that I am though. My first semester sucked so much. I thought I’d enjoy programming. I love computers, so why wouldn’t I want to work with them for a career? Well, the answer to that is that programming to me is like repeatedly taking that “I shouldn’t have taken that last shot” shot. You think you’re having a good time, but you realize, “Damnit, not again.”

Currently, I am working towards a major that lets me do what I want. And, because I don’t know what I want, that’s exactly what I’m working on. Life right now is going pretty well. I’m beginning to explore life the way I should have a long time ago. So the question right now lies with why I’m writing this. Well folks, I guess I can’t give you a straight answer. I guess it’s partially because I’m bored, and partially because my best friend asked me to. So, if you’re still reading this I’d like to say hello, and I hope you enjoy things I may write in the future, but if you don’t, fuck you and die.

Just kidding :-)

Craig Weber’s Story

So I guess this is my introductory post? Well, I’m a junior at the University of Northern Iowa. My major is Electrical Engineering Technology. As of right now the plan is to get my BS in that and possibly French. I love to play guitar and my favorite sport is wakeboarding. I’m pretty quirky and that’ll probably show in my posts here. For instance, I say things like “I don’t entirely suck at grammar”.

My philosophy is actually stolen from a Facebook bumper-sticker: “Don’t take life too seriously. No one gets out alive anyways.” I feel that’s reflective of my general naive-ness regarding life.

I’m horribly interested in religions and cultures, morality, and how society impacts people and vice-versa (I think that’s called Sociology?) so those will probably be the big topics/themes I’ll write about. I try to be honest, even about taboo topics that your mother told you not to talk about in “polite society”, at least when it comes to serious posts. And most of all, I value open-mindedness (because arguing from a standpoint without considering the opposition’s view is called ignorance).
