The days are beginning to blur. . .

Break is so fucking long. I have no idea what’s going on. Save me from myself.

Let’s pretend I’m attractive and then

You won’t mind, we can twist for a while

It’s the night, I can be who you like

And I’ll quietly leave before it gets light

So twist and whisper the wrong name

I don’t care nor do my ears

You twist yourself around me

I need company, I need human heat

I need human heat

Think you can write?

Postblink is looking for contributing authors interested in writing about politics, opinions, music, movies, technology, science, and more. The sky’s the limit, provided you can put together sentences and they’re not drama-filled rants about your emo ex-boy/girlfriend’s poor dying dog.

Specifically we’re looking for thought provoking articles about life as a young adult and authors that can express the way our generation views society and culture. We’re mostly interested in guys and girls in the age range of 18-25ish. You do not have to be a college student to contribute to Postblink. You do not have to share any other member’s ideas or have common opinions on things. You do have to be respectful with counter-opinions.

It is not important that you have perfect grammar or writing skills. If you feel that you can contribute valuable articles, I will take care of the editorial aspect of things. You do have to have, at the very least, the ability to string together sentences that don’t require a decoder mechanism to be interpreted. Previous writing experience is great, but not required.

If interested please contact me at lucasj218 AT gmail DOT com with the subject “Postblink Author”. Please include in your message at least your first name, interests and a short paragraph about why/what you’d like to contribute to the site.

If accepted I will get back to you with how to create an account here, if you haven’t already, and some basic instructions for logging in and posting. After your account is made I will set up your author privledges.

Earlier in the year I tested the idea of multiple authors contributing with some close friends, and this is simply an expansion of that. I would encourage you to contact me only if you’re willing to post at least every other week, however you will be allowed to post as often as you want.

Secret Agent Man

I’m not a huge fan of television. I don’t hate it, by any means, but I rarely have “must see” shows. I can’t stand reality television, nor can I stand most hour long dramas that seem to be taking over airtime. When my TV is on, it’s usually tuned into Nickalodeon at night for background noise. Not for Spongebob or iCarly, but for old 90’s TV shows. Family Matters, Home Improvement, and, perhaps most importantly, Roseanne.

I will now take a brief break to admit that I have watched iCarly – and it’s not a bad show. . .

I caught the last season of Friday Night Lights before it went off-air on NBC and started playing on DirecTV. I occasionally tune in still on satellite, but primarily because that one blonde check that seems to always get in trouble is way hot and their seems to be this constant romantic tension between her and this geeky bad-football-player-found-skill (who has apparently become less geeky somehow?) which always makes for good TV.

Hot female lead+hopeless romantic nerd=TV MAGIC. Got it?

I’m talking the Tyra and Landry chemistry. Urkle and Laura. Cory and Topanga. David and Darlene. . well, okay she wasn’t that attractive – but you get where I’m going with this right?

Enter late 2007. In walks this nerd, Chuck, who works at his local Buy More (Bestbuy) for the Nerd Herd (Geek Squad). Through an entirely messy incident, he becomes an invaluable asset to the CIA. Enter hot female lead government spy Sarah who’s sole responsiblity is watching over Chuck. Que the fake girlfriend cover, in which the line between fake and real becomes very blurred. Add in an awesome music supervisor who scores some well known tunes in addition to some lesser known, but very good songs and a fantastic editing team – well, you can’t really go wrong.

Instantly good television. It’s a fairly original, hour-long comedy drama with amazing stunt coordination for which it won an Emmy last year. Both Time and the Chicago Tribune have listed Chuck in their top 10 TV series of 2008, but to really appreciate Chuck you should go check out an episode. Recent episodes from season 2 are online at http://nbc.com/chuck/.

And now that I’ve shared with you what I feel is the perfect formula for TV magic, I shall admit one thing.

I have not missed an episode of Chuck.

Chuck returns to NBC February 2ND, 2009. I will await it’s return.

I can see my freakin’ breath

Iowa can be a cold, depressing bitch in the winter. It’s currently 9 °F. That’s up from 5 °F yesterday. We’re talking -20 °F wind chills. Letting my dogs outside to further spread a plague of yellow snow is about unbearable. Walking between classes may in fact freeze over my eyes. Luckily, I’m officially on break.

I love the holidays. Of course, we should maybe narrow that down. I love Christmas. The friends, the family, and the snow. Yeah, snow can be a bitch – but it can be fun as hell too, and I’ve been living here almost 21 years now, so I’ve gotten kind of used to it. Snow means Christmas. Christmas means home. Home means Iowa.

Everyone at some point in their lives has either said or overheard someone talking about hating where they grew up. I’ve touched on this before, but I think it’s important to reiterate that very few people really hate where they’ve come from and when someone honestly feels that uncomfortable with where they grew up than it’s a really sad thing in my eyes. I’m not saying I want to live in small-town Iowa for the rest of my life, but I can see Iowa as some place safe I can always come back to. Safe for me and safe for those around me.

Which brings me to my next point. I’m going to death-stare out of existance the next family member that suggests maybe we should do something different this year for the holidays. You know, a small family trip?

No. I don’t want to go to Florida. I don’t want to go to California. I don’t want to go to any of the gulf states.

You can go without me, and I can assure you that you will be missed while you are gone. I will take pictures of our tree with the presents under it. You can have yours when you get back. You’ll be back in early-to-mid January, so you won’t miss much as far as snow fall. It’ll be here when you get back and for quite some time. We’ll fill in your spots for the string of games we play during the holidays.

There’s not much to be missed – except the newest batch of children. You know how they’re at that perfect age right now? They’ve grown out of the stage where they run around the house, knocking down the nativity scene. They’re not so young that they have to be laid down in front of a movie when it gets late just to pass out five seconds into A Charlie Brown Christmas.

They have genuine smiles on Christmas morning. They wanted every toy in every commercial and every paper ad they saw. They have no idea what they’re getting, but they’ll freak out when they get it.

It’s a horrible time to be anywhere but home for the holidays. With a family as big as mine, it may not ever be. I, for one, am perfectly okay with that.

Merry Christmas friends.
