Sleep Just To Dream Her

This space between us
Where wingless dreams fall earless
Will you not bear me witness
With your back to me now

Alright. You’ll have to forgive me, because at this point all I can really do is think about what’s going to happen and wait for it.

All these discussions this past weekend led me to more research on ISU’s JMC classes. ISU’s journalism coursework was set in to motion in 1905. It was the first journalism school offered in Iowa and one of the first in the nation. Greenlee is located in Hamilton Hall.

On the other hand, Iowa’s new Adler building is a massive stride in trying to compete with ISU’s program. It’s a brand new facility (Constructed January, ’05).

This is dumb. I just need to pick a place. It doesn’t matter, they’re both going to be exceptional schools anyways.

It seemed so unnerving
Still somehow deserving
That she could hold my heart so tightly
And still not see me here, oh

I Feel I Must Interject Here…

So far my GED testing’s going well. I scored a 26 out of 30 on the math section, which is my worst subject, so I’m pretty psyched. It’s been a huge eye-opener seeing all my friends leave for college and hearing so many of them asking what my plans are… I’ve had a plan for a long time now, but it’s that much more motivation to getting it done and over with when I hear from them.

In other news – Ryan, Chase, and I are heading to Ames Saturday afternoon after Ryan’s guitar lessons. I’ve been wanting to see my friends there and see where they’re staying, so off we go. Ryan and Chase are pretty psyched about seeing Craig I think, plus the prospect of the party planned for Saturday night’s always appealing, I’m sure. I’m taking my music collection with me via the external hard drive to share the wealth, as well as hopefully getting some demos to Craig.

The plans are to see everybody when we get there, if possible. Then at 5:30 we’re heading to a venue (which venue? I don’t know…) to see Stuck With Arthur play, afterwhich we’re hitting up Accepted hopefully, because I’ve heard it was pretty hilarious.

But for now, I’m out. G’night. Seriously. Shhh. Buhbye. K, thanks. Night.

Grandmothers…

They’re the second coolest demographic on our carbon-based planet. Why are they so cool? Because they’ve got so much god damn information to give that no matter what question you ask them, they can give it to you from fifty different people’s perspectives. Any situation you’ve experienced in your short pathetic life-span is something they’ve experienced in a worse, better, of different way three times over. I wish that I could somehow preserve what my grandma has to say, because I would own a greater search engine and reference site than Google & Wikipedia combined. And it would somehow be ten times more accurate and less accurate at the same time.

My mom had to jet after she dropped me off at Metro Campus today – she had a home meeting. As such, who do my eyes greet outside the door on my way out after testing? Grams! Now, anytime I’ve got to rely on my grandma for a ride my face takes on this appearance featuring a weird grin. It’s half-disappointment, because it means the rides going to be long and it’s going to be dangerous. It means I’m going to have to be her eyes. But god forbid I ever drive her car! Anyways, the panic calms a little once we’re finally on the interstate or highway, which ever comes first. But this is also the time she goes into story-mode.

Today’s collective facts mount up to her childhood in San Bernadino, an uncle that didn’t go to law school but passed the Tennessee Bar Exam and then helped Utah become a state. That’s the short version, it gets much longer and branches out into one hundred other stories at the same time.

It’s really too much to keep track of but she does, somehow…

P.S. – There’s a 20% chance of showers for the evening of August 23rd. But that doesn’t matter, ’cause Grandma said it’s going to rain…

Blogging Via Facebook

Alright, so. Facebook has a new blogging feature they call “notes”. It’s not as intricate as some of the other blogging services out there, but it’s a neat idea. My favorite part is that you can import feeds. Feeds are links to your blog that import the articles from them. This means that, by importing my rss feed (http://lucasj.net/blog/?feed=rss2) through my Facebook account, everything I write on my website’s blog shows up on Facebook. Then, I can of course also go back into edit them via Facebook and tag my friends. Nifty huh? I thought so. But 90% of my friends with blogs use other services. If you know how to find your rss url, that’s great. For those of you using MySpace, it’s incrediably easy. Here’s what you do.

1) Login to your MySpace.
2) Click “View My: Blog”
3) Copy the shortcut/url that “rss” leads to. You can see the “rss” link at the top of your blog, below the header, on the right side. It will look something like “http://blog.myspace.com/blog/rss.cfm?friendID=YOURPROFILEIDT”

Like I said. Nifty, huh? You can also do this with flickr feeds.

Up Through The Palm Trees

I can now, officially, say we’re recording. I’ve been hinting at it for the past two weeks, but I can actually say we’ve started, as of last Saturday. We’re all set up. I’ll have some actual photos of what we’ve done up Friday night, so you can see where and how we’re recording, and if I get some editing done, we might have a short podcast up by Sunday night to explain a little further about what’s going down. I will say that everyone’s pretty excited, as they should be. Any and all music I post will be very, very early in production, most likely just recordings of us practicing, especially until Shane gets his drum & cymbol mics. Anyways, check back Friday…
